Government Grants for AI Staff Training in Canada | JimmyAI
Government funding may reduce eligible training costs—but approval must come before training begins.

Government Grants for AI Staff Training in Canada

Canadian employers may be able to use approved workforce-training funding to hire JimmyAI for practical employee training on artificial intelligence. This page links directly to the official programs that most clearly allow instructor fees, training fees or outside training providers.

The programs below were checked against government sources on July 20, 2026. Every application is assessed individually. A program being listed here does not mean JimmyAI, a specific course or your company is automatically approved.

Verified Employer Training Programs

These are not generic business loans or technology-purchase programs. Each program below has an official rule or application requirement that supports external training, instructor fees, online delivery or a proposed private training company. That makes it possible for an employer to propose JimmyAI as the trainer, while leaving the final decision with the government administrator.

Accepting eligible applications

1. Ontario Job Grant

Best match for Ontario employers. Ontario says an approved third-party training provider must deliver the training. The program can support eligible costs up to $10,000 per trainee. Employers with 100 or more employees normally pay half. Employers with fewer than 100 employees must contribute at least one-sixth. A qualifying previously unemployed new hire may be eligible for up to $15,000 with no minimum employer contribution.

The province is currently accepting individual-employer applications involving 25 or fewer participants. An Ontario employer could propose a structured JimmyAI program that teaches job-related AI skills, but the employer, participants, course and trainer all remain subject to approval.

2. B.C. Employer Training Grant

WorkBC says employers may receive reimbursement for 80% of eligible training costs, up to $10,000 per employee and $300,000 per employer per fiscal year. Employers must choose a third-party training provider, pay the costs and submit their own reimbursement claim. The program supports skills training for current employees and prospective hires when its employment-outcome rules are met.

WorkBC’s application guide includes a specific process for a provider located outside British Columbia, requiring the employer to explain that selection. This makes an Ontario-based trainer possible to propose, not automatically eligible. The employer must apply using its own Business BCeID; JimmyAI cannot submit the application on its behalf.

3. Building Up Manitoba Program

The Building Up Manitoba Program, known as BUMP, is a 50% cost-shared program for eligible Manitoba employers with fewer than 500 full-time-equivalent employees. Its Employee Training stream expressly permits in-house or external third-party training. The official page says employers may receive up to $10,000 per employee and up to $100,000 in total funding across its streams.

A Manitoba employer could therefore propose JimmyAI’s instructor-led AI training when it responds to a real workforce need and improves job outcomes or security. The business must be permanently established in Manitoba, fully operational for at least one year and meet the remaining program rules. Confirm acceptance of an out-of-province provider before committing.

4. Nova Scotia WIPSI

Nova Scotia’s Workplace Innovation and Productivity Skills Incentive may fund up to 75% of eligible training costs. Official eligible costs include training fees, instructor costs, course materials and travel. The program specifically identifies digital transformation, technology adoption, operational efficiency and employee upskilling as eligible training themes, making a well-defined workplace AI project a logical proposal.

The most recently published 2026 intake ran from April 1 to April 30 and is now closed. The government says WIPSI opens twice per year, but the next dates were not confirmed on the page when this guide was updated. Nova Scotia employers should contact WIPSI and ask whether a JimmyAI quote and trainer credentials can be included in the next application.

5. PEI Workplace Skills Training

Prince Edward Island’s Workplace Skills Training program helps employers train new or existing employees in short-term, job-specific skills. SkillsPEI may contribute up to 50% of direct training costs, with the employer contributing the other half. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, and the official instructions suggest applying at least two weeks before the intended start date.

The application requires the name and details of the proposed training provider, a training plan, objectives, schedule, expected results and budget. That structure allows a PEI employer to propose JimmyAI directly. Training that forms part of normal business operations is not eligible, so the application should explain the new AI capabilities employees will gain.

6. New Brunswick Labour Force Training

New Brunswick’s Labour Force Training program supports strategic training for existing employees and potential employees. Its official application recognizes a private company as a training provider and includes classroom, workplace and online training methods. The form also lists training-provider fees, mandatory software, materials and examination fees in the proposed budget.

An employer must submit its application before training starts and receive approval before the start date. A JimmyAI proposal should show that the AI training addresses a specific skills gap created by technological change, improves employees’ ability to perform their jobs and is not simply a refresher course. Contact WorkingNB for the current contribution level and regional assessment details.

What JimmyAI Can Supply for an Application

Most funding applications need more than a one-line invoice. JimmyAI can prepare supporting information for the employer to submit, including a course title, description, learning objectives, delivery schedule, participant numbers and a detailed quote. The proposal can connect AI skills to employees’ actual roles instead of promising vague “digital transformation.”

A strong training plan may cover responsible AI use, privacy-aware prompting, research and verification, job-specific workflows, reducing repetitive administrative work and supervised practice. The exact content should match the employer’s approved business need and the funding program’s rules.

How to Pursue Funding Without Risking Eligibility

  1. Choose the official program for the employer’s province. These are employer programs, so the employer’s operating location—not JimmyAI’s address—normally determines where to apply.
  2. Confirm the business and employees qualify. Check company size, employee status, residency, eligible job outcomes, program intake dates and any sector priorities.
  3. Ask whether JimmyAI is acceptable. Share the proposed online or in-person format and confirm whether an Ontario-based private trainer is permitted before making a commitment.
  4. Request the supporting documents. JimmyAI can provide the outline, objectives, dates, trainer details and quote requested by the program.
  5. Apply before the deadline and training date. Many programs reject retroactive costs. Wait for written approval when the program requires it.
  6. Keep invoices, proof of payment and attendance records. Reimbursement programs may require the employer to pay first and then submit evidence.

Programs Deliberately Not Presented as Available Grants

Accuracy matters more than making the list look long. Saskatchewan announced that the Canada–Saskatchewan Job Grant would be eliminated after federal labour-market funding reductions. Newfoundland and Labrador says its Canada–NL Job Grant is suspended and is not accepting new applications. Ontario’s Skills Development Fund Training Stream is also shown as closed. These programs are therefore not promoted above as current ways to hire JimmyAI.

Other funding programs may support large sector partnerships, tariff-affected employers, apprenticeships, hiring subsidies or post-secondary credentials, but that does not automatically make them suitable for purchasing a private employee AI workshop. Employers should use the official federal Business Benefits Finder to discover additional programs and then obtain written confirmation that instructor-led AI training is an eligible cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a government grant pay JimmyAI to train our employees?

Potentially. The six programs above permit training fees, instructor costs, online delivery or third-party training in some form. The employer and course must still be approved. JimmyAI cannot guarantee government funding.

Should we book training before applying?

Usually not. Several programs require the application—and sometimes written approval—before training starts. Confirm the rule for your province before signing a non-refundable agreement or paying an invoice.

Does JimmyAI submit the government application?

The employer normally submits its own application. For example, WorkBC expressly says third parties cannot apply for the employer. JimmyAI can supply the course information and quote that the employer needs to attach.

Is AI training automatically eligible?

No. Funding administrators usually look for a defined skills gap, job relevance, measurable learning and an employment outcome. “Learning about AI” is too broad; the application should identify what employees will do differently after training.

Prepare Your Team for Practical AI Use
