AI Skills Assessment for Employees

Use this assessment to plan learning—not to rank employees by speed or punish people who are new to AI.

Foundation

Can the employee explain what generative AI does, identify a suitable low-risk task and recognize that fluent output may still be wrong?

Prompting

Can the employee define audience, purpose, context, constraints, examples and desired format?

Safety and review

Can the employee identify sensitive information, verify important claims and explain who approves the final work?

Workflow

Can the employee document a repeatable use case with inputs, steps, review points and an owner?

Use results to plan learning

A foundation gap suggests plain-language orientation; a prompting gap suggests guided practice; a safety gap requires immediate clarification of tools and information; a workflow gap calls for coaching on repeatability and review. Do not combine the answers into a false precision score.

Practical checklist

I can choose an appropriate task
I can protect sensitive information
I can write a context-rich prompt
I can improve a weak result
I can verify important facts
I know when to stop and ask
